Carl M. Porto II
Carl M. Porto II is a Hamden native. He attended Boston University for his undergraduate studies in economics where he graduated with cum laude distinction in 1990. He then attended law school at the Quinnipiac University School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctor degree in 1993. While in law school, Mr. Porto was a member of the Connecticut Probate Law Journal and was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Trial Practice. Mr. Porto was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1993 and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut in 1994.
Mr. Porto joined Porto, Parrett, Parese & Colwell, P.C. in 1993 and became a partner of the firm in 2000. His practice focuses on the areas of real estate and asset-based commercial transactions, representation of borrowers, private lenders and financial institutions, construction law, contracts, corporate law including sales, mergers, and acquisitions, residential real estate transactions, and litigation, with an emphasis on mortgage, foreclosure, contract, land, and business disputes. Mr. Porto also has extensive experience in land use development, subdivisions, condominiums, litigation, and resolution of title issues, leases, and land use matters.
Mr. Porto has served as the sole trier of fact in the context of binding private commercial arbitration and has also served as an expert witness in the field of Connecticut foreclosure law. Mr. Porto has served as a member of Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell’s management committee and is currently the firm’s managing partner.
Community / Business Affiliations (current and previous)
As an active member in the legal and business communities, Mr. Porto is presently and has been a member of many professional and business organizations. Among these organizations are the New Haven County and Connecticut Bar Associations, the Standing Committee on Professionalism (2001-2004), and the Board of Trustees for Hamden Hall Country Day School (1998-2003.) In addition, Mr. Porto was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hamden Chamber of Commerce (2003- 2005) and since 2012 has been a member of the Town of Hamden, Connecticut Employee Retirement Board.
Mr. Porto resides in Hamden with his wife Kimberly and has two children Carl III and William.
