Biography

Upon earning his Juris Doctor in 1967 from the University of Connecticut School of Law, Carl returned to the New Haven area and began practicing with the firm that is now known as Parrett Porto, focusing mainly on civil and criminal litigation. He was the firm’s managing partner for over 50 years.

Throughout the time that he has practiced law, Carl has been an active member of his profession, taking on important assignments and positions in Connecticut and New Haven County Bar Associations. He has also devoted a substantial amount of his time to his local community, participating in a wide variety of clubs, foundations, and associations.

Carl now focuses his practice in the areas of healthcare, physicians and medical practices, business transactions, zoning and land use, and limited litigation and personal injury law. He has served as general counsel to medical practices, and represented physicians and physician practices in all aspects of the business of practicing medicine, including interactions with controlling State and Federal governmental boards and agencies. He has also represented numerous commercial businesses in mergers and acquisitions and in various internal and external disputes. Throughout the course of his practice, Carl has represented hundreds of clients in dozens of areas but still maintains that the most important aspect of practicing law is helping clients achieve their goals.

Carl resides in Hamden with his wife, Theresa, and has three children: Attorney Carl M. Porto II, Attorney Joseph M. Porto, and Attorney Mark M. Porto.
