The Firm

Founded under the name Buckley & Parrett, the firm now known as Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell, P.C. has been in continuous operation since 1962. The initial emphasis of the firm’s practice was on individual clients, primarily in the areas of negligence, personal injury, criminal defense, wills, probate and family law. Over time the firm’s corporate and business clientele, and the complexity of their legal needs, continued to expand. A similar growth was experienced with the firms individual clients. Today, due to the ever-changing needs of its clients, Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell continues to grow, diversify and represent both individuals and business entities in equal proportions. This serves as the core foundation of the firm’s practice. To learn more about our specific areas of legal practice for businesses and individuals, visit our Practice Areas section.

The firm’s philosophy centers on building positive relationships with each client by providing high quality, comprehensive, and when needed, aggressive legal services. Through hard work, skill, integrity and experience, we have earned a reputation for expending whatever effort is necessary to achieve a positive result for our clients, whether through litigation, alternative dispute resolution, or appearances before administrative agencies, boards and commissions. Our attorneys have always taken a leading position in the law with respect to clients and cases undertaken, and we have been recognized for these successes on a statewide basis and in statewide publications.

Although Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell has grown, our clients still benefit from the same dedication that was the hallmark of the firm when we began more than 40 years ago. With a staff of talented attorneys and an experienced and dedicated support staff, Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell has the critical mass to be able to provide forceful and effective legal representation for our larger corporate and real estate clients, yet remains small enough to serve as concerned and engaged legal advisors for our individual clients.

Our dedication to our clients is also reflected in our commitment to serving the needs of the greater community in which we live and practice law. At Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell, our attorneys give their time, energy and expertise to community service throughout the State of Connecticut in a wide variety of ways. This focus on community service is a priority for the firm and a defining characteristic of each of its attorneys as detailed in each of their online resumes. The firm’s community service includes:

  • Membership and leadership positions on numerous local and state boards and commissions
  • Service as counsel to various non-profit groups
  • Serving as legal counsel to foundations and a variety of community, school and charitable groups
  • Active participation in bar sponsored and firm pro- bono cases and activities
  • Active participation in the local and state bar associations
  • Financial support to local and state charities and community initiatives

Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell understands its broader responsibility and the importance of being involved with and supporting our local communities and institutions that make a difference in how we live and work.

Excellence and commitment to our clients’ legal needs and dedication and service to our community continues to be the foundation of Parrett, Porto, Parese & Colwell, P.C.
